A CULINARY TOURIST DELIGHT. By ASK Gwen Cash.
Being the avid food lover and explorer of foods from around the world, Midsummer House Restaurant overly exceeded my expectations. The beautiful restaurant is located in the historic grounds of Mid Summer Common, Cambridge beside the River Cam and is the only 2 Star-Michelin Restaurant in East Anglia (www.midsummerhouse.co.uk, 2012).
Upon arrival for our 8:00 reservations, we were greeted at the door by a very friendly and warm staff that escorted us to our table which was in the center of this lovely restaurant. We decided to go with the 5 course market and classic menu which consisted of leek and potato with quail eggs and smoked haddock, celery goats’ cheese and horseradish, crispy salmon, and roast duck with pieces of crispy duck belly which each course was paired with wines recommended by Midsummer's sommelier.
The highlight of the dinner was touring the kitchen and the amazing wine cellar. We finished off the evening with English tea and biscuits on the second floor of the house. This has truly been one of the best dining out experience while traveling abroad. If you are ever in Cambridge, UK, you MUST visit this restaurant for a great meal and experience. ASK Gwen Cash gives, the two Michelin-Starred, Chef Daniel Clifford thumbs up for such a creative and well planned out menu. I will be back again soon!!!
