Awesome visit to Opera De Paris - Palais Garnier
The Opera De Paris or better known today as Palais Garnier, was by far my favorite place to explore and experience while visiting Paris, France. Even on this cold and rainy day, I was thrilled that we added this one on our list to go and see. Wow, what a beauty it is on the inside. It is a 1900 seated opera house built in the 1800's. It is known as the most famous Opera house in the world. The Grand Foyer of the Paris Opera was just stunning to see and to explore. The Foyer is about 8 meters high, 154 meters long and 13 meters wide, was designed to act as a drawing room for Paris society. Built of marble and various colors with a double staircase leading to the foyers to multiple levels of the auditorium. The auditorium was an horseshoe-shaped "French" auditorium and was designed to see and to be seen. My absolute favorite part to stumble upon was the Grand Foyer. The ceiling is painted by Paul Baudry (1828-1886), which features themes from the history of music. A copy of Garnier's bust by the sculptor Carpeaux (1827-1875 stands in the center of the Grand Foyer and overlooks down the Avenue de l'Opera all the way to the Louvre. Simply stunning. I was in complete awe of the history, decoration, and layout of the Opera. This is ONE you must see if you visit Paris, France.
